Our Mission
Our mission is to foster creativity in learning from an early age to help support a vibrant and diverse community that can sustain itself and communicate productively.
We choose to visualize and create a warm, inviting new Waldorf-inspired homeschooling resource center for the quaint artistic community of North Kohala on the Big Island. 'Ohana leaders draw on their life experiences to bring inspired ideas, projects and cultural influences into the learning environment to help children discover their own creativity and love of learning. Location & LEADERSHIPThe Ohana Homeschool Cooperative is located at the HUB in North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawai'i. It is a perfect place for families who wish to nurture a connection with nature for their children. Self-directed play - inside and outside - are our main activities for all groups. Compassion with each other and the environment is encouraged.
Our toddler and kinder leader, Vicky, has more than 20 years experience teaching Pre-K and Kindergarten. She is an excellent guide demonstrating patience and great care of our children. What to expectWe emphasize imagination, expression and creativity. A sense of community and extended family envelopes the learning center. We are holding a space where children can learn healthy interaction with nature, animals, plants, the elements and each other.
Throughout the program we have festivals to celebrate holidays and the changing seasons and your children and family will be invited to attend these events. Some examples are the Autumn Festival (on Halloween), Spiral of Lights, and May Day (with maypole dancing and singing). This cooperative is a family organized and run homeschool group so feel free to always give input and requests. |
